Design: All the Basics in One Box

DJI offers the Mic Mini in four different packages. The $169 kit we tried comes with two microphones and one receiver in Infinity Black, a 3.5mm audio cable, a USB-A-to-USB-C charging cable, a USB-C adapter for mobile phones, four fuzzy windscreens (two black and two black-and-white), and a zippered carrying bag. The $188 version adds a Lightning adapter for older iPhones and iPads. You can also buy a set with one microphone and one receiver along with a small carrying pouch for $89, or a set that includes a Lightning adapter for $108. These last two options don’t have a charging case but come with small charging pucks for the microphones. Extra microphones in Arctic White or Infinity Black cost $59 each, and the Lightning adapter alone is $19.

DJI Mic Mini kit

The microphones are about the size of a quarter, measuring 1.05 by 1.03 by 0.63 inches and weighing just 0.35 ounces. They are much smaller than the Mic 2 microphones, which are 1.81 by 1.57 by 0.86 inches and weigh 0.99 ounces. Each microphone has a clip for attaching to clothes and a magnetic puck for sticking to clothes where clipping isn’t easy. The microphone is on the top edge, and there are buttons for linking and powering on the left side. A four-pin area on the bottom lets them charge in the case. Unlike the Mic 2 microphones, these do not have a 3.5mm jack, so you can’t connect your own TRS lavalier mic. There is no USB-C port or record button, which means you can’t record audio directly on the microphones like with the Mic 2 system.
