Why I like Sony XM4s more than AirPods Max for workouts
I’ve seen powerlifters and gym-goers using Apple AirPods Max, but I believe the XM4s are better for working out. Neither the AirPods Max nor the XM4s are sweat-proof (over-ear headphones usually aren’t), but if you prefer over-ear headphones like I do because they fit more securely than earbuds, I recommend the XM4s.
They are lighter and comfortable for longer, and the faux-leather ear pads are easy to clean. Plus, they still produce great sound. I’ve found the mesh ear cushions on the AirPods Max hard to clean.
If you don’t like buttons, you’ll enjoy the touch controls on the XM4s, located on the right ear cup. However, some people prefer the physical buttons on the AirPods Max.
Sony XM4 vs. Sony XM5
I know the XM4s are two versions older, with the Sony XM5 and XM6 available now, but that’s why they’re a great deal—excellent sound, comfort for all-day wear, and active noise canceling that works well without the higher price of new models. Even with the new versions,
the XM4 design is still top-notch. Unlike the XM5s, which don’t fold at all, the XM4s can fold inward for easier storage. The XM6s have brought back the folding design, but they are much more expensive than the XM4s.
So, don’t be like me and buy the Sony WH-1000XM4 at full price. Take advantage of the current 43% discount and get one of the best active noise-canceling headphones for under $200.
